We’re proud to be the go-to green dry cleaner for Vermonters. Throughout our four-decades-long history, the Gadue’s Dry Cleaning team has always been alert to technological breakthroughs to make our services more environmentally conscious. A few years ago, we implemented one of our most significant changes by integrating an eco-friendly solvent into our dry cleaning system.
Most dry cleaners still use a chlorinated hydrocarbon called perchloroethylene, or “perc,” which can contaminate air, soil, and groundwater. At Gadue’s, we were always unsatisfied with this potentially damaging substance. In 2010, we were excited to have the opportunity (along with just three other dry cleaners around the world) to test out Kruessler ’s halogen-free SolvonK4 solvent as an alternative.
SolvonK4 worked like a charm, and the testing at Gadue’s and the other participating facilities led to Kruessler unveiling SystemK4—the dry cleaning setup utilizing the halogen-free solvent—to the world in October of 2010. We’re downright ecstatic to have a greener system that still allows us to maintain our high standards for cleaning garments.
Our ecologically aware approach, exemplified by our adoption of SystemK4, led to Gadue’s receiving a prestigious Vermont Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence for Pollution Prevention in 2011. As the program’s official website states, these awards “recognize the actions taken by Vermonters to conserve and protect natural resources, prevent pollution, and promote environmental sustainability.” It’s one of our proudest accomplishments, and a daily inspiration to keep enhancing and elevating our work.
